DAY 1: TRAVEL BY RIVER TO MADIDI NATIONAL PARK

The adventure begins. We start at the banks of the Beni River in the town of Rurrenabaque, followed by a scenic boat ride across the beautiful Bala Canyon so you can navigate your way up the Tuichi River next. Arrive at the ecolodge for lunch and enjoy some relaxing time in the middle of nature. The rest of the day is dedicated to exploring the jungle on foot along one of the many trails that are available to see wildlife such as the white-lipped peccary, the brown capuchin monkey and the red howler monkey. After arrival back in the ecolodge, enjoy dinner and then you will be able to join a nocturnal hike to spot amphibians and other nocturnal animals before retreating to your cabin for the night. After breakfast, this is your day to take advantage of the abundance of hiking opportunities and trails to spot wildlife. Our favourite is a scenic hike to the Madidi Scenic Viewpoint. This is followed by another trail where a variety of native trees and flora will be shown. For the perfect afternoon activity, you can't go wrong with some ‘me time’ on the hammocks before another hike to spot more species of trees such as Giant Kapok Tree, Almendrillo Tree and the Strangler Fig Tree. Enjoy a traditional dinner prepared by your hosts tonight. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D) Accommodation: Private room in cabin lodge with shared bathroom (private room+bathroom is available as extra during checkout)

FAQs

Where does this tour start an end?
It starts and ends in the town of Rurrenabaque
Is transport to and from Rurrenabaque included?
No, it is NOT included
How do I get to Rurrenabaque?
You can take a long and bumpy bus ride (16 hrs approx) or a short 1-hour flight from La Paz. You can also take shared taxis from La Paz to Caranavi and Caranavi - Rurrenabaque (12 hrs approx).
When can this tour be done?
It can be done year-round but the months of May to November are considered the best due to less rain and more wildlife
Are there malaria-carrying mosquitoes in the region?
Malaria is considered a possibility in every region of the Amazon Basin in South America, although no cases have been reported in this region for decades. That said, it is important to use mosquito repellent and cover your body as much as possible.
Can I arrange transport to Rurrenabaque with Travexplora?
Yes, you can book your bus or flights (recommended) with us easily
Are flights often cancelled to/from Rurrenabaque?
During the rainy season cancellations are not uncommon. We recommend not booking international flights after the tour in case flights are delayed or cancelled due to bad weather. Although cancellations and delays are very rare in the dry months, it is still a remote possibility.
Is this tour the same as the Pampas tour?
No, the Pampas tour is a totally different tour that takes place in a totally different area. There are both Pampas + Jungle (Madidi) tours available if you are interested
Will I see lots of wildlife on this tour?
The jungle tour in Madidi has a strong focus on ecotourism and conservation. While the area is mega diverse and boasts all species of mammals, amphibians and birds, it is more challenging to spot them due to the nature of the jungle (as opposed to the Pampas in which you see lots of animals easily). Patience and lots of hiking increase the chances of spotting wildlife but it is never guaranteed as this is nature.
Do I need to be very fit to join this tour?
No, but a moderate level of fitness is highly recommended in order to enjoy the jungle hikes along the natural trails. You can always choose to spend time at the ecolodge but it is recommended to join the hikes for obvious reasons.
